Inside the Yaroslavl factory
Artem Vier has been working as welder in the Primary Framing shop at Yaroslavl plant since 2009.
Can you tell us about your production line?
I work at the final welding shop with a semi-automatic welding machine, so it assumes certain responsibility: compared to the automatic line, here you should hold everything in your hands and control the weld quality, height and dimensions. You should carefully study the drawings and for each new job rework the sequence of elements for welding adapting it to the individual specifics of the project.
What kind of challenges do you usually face?
In some projects – the Salekhard arena for example – elements are so big that you cannot process them alone even with the help of lifting devices. In such cases, coordinated efforts with your partner are very important.
What were the most interesting jobs lately?
The most memorable projects are: MSB administrative building in Sochi, Salekhard Sports Arena and Yandex Data Center, which we are working on right now. These projects were quite difficult due to the huge volumes, large size of structures and many non-standard elements.
What do you like about your job? I have been working at this plant for 7 years already and have experience at many lines. It is always interesting to try something new, and thus you never get bored. I like the fact that that Astron production is very modern and automated – all processes are well-organized. Working conditions are very comfortable, and another important thing is modern PPE – thanks to the headshield my eyes feel good even after a long welding shift. I like it when there is a lot of work, even if we have to work on weekends. When we finish a large and complicated project, I feel satisfied.
