3 in 1 Car Park
Located in the city of Roskilde in Denmark, the MUSICON carpark is a landmark in the creative district of the city, near Roskilde train station. Today, 70 actors comprising of companies, associations and cultural institutions animate this district. Residents could already benefit from a theater, a museum, an art school, a skate track, restaurants, dance halls and many types of accommodation. The 240-space carpark is part of the development of this new district.
The area is characterized by the presence of old industrial buildings, directly integrated into the design of the new urban spaces.
The architectural firm Mangor & Nagel Architects designed the carpark as an element based on creativity. The shape and environmental aspects of the project had to be perfectly integrated in the eyes of the general public. The result is striking: This is a 3-in-1 project: a carpark, a recreational area and an area for creative leisure and sports activities.
Thus, during the day, cars are the essential element of the carpark. Then, during the evening, children, young people and adults from the town of Roskilde take possession of the buildings. The top level is transformed into a basketball court and becomes yet another space for creative activities in the Musicon district.
The facades of the car park reveal the physical activities that take place inside, such as “Parkour” or "CrossFit". The green touch accentuates the feeling of a responsible neighborhood. The idea is that eventually the green plants will climb up to the roof.
The car park, has integrated sustainability in many ways. This applies to the choice of materials, the recycling, the transport needs and the durability.
Finally, an in-depth analysis of the life cycle of the materials was carried out. The steel solution with facades using recycled containers is in line with this spirit. Everything is designed according to the "Design for separation" principle. Company MT Højgaard stands for the total project as a design and built.
