COMPLEX INITIAL SITUATION. PRECISE SOLUTION.
Safe hall solution above contaminated site
On the site of the former "Dethlinger Teich" explosives storage facility, a high-risk area had to be completely covered in order to enable safe remediation. Chemical residues and explosive contaminants lay at depths of up to twelve metres - working in the open air was impossible. What was required was a fully enclosed steel hall that combined airtightness, controlled air extraction and maximum structural safety. Astron developed a customised solution that was implemented in record time despite these extreme boundary conditions - a prime example of the efficiency of modern system construction.
TECHNICAL PRECISION IN XXL
97 m span. 106 m length. 22 m ridge height.
The hall spans the entire redevelopment area - without a single internal support. The specially designed steel frame supports snow loads, wind forces and its own weight over almost 100 metres. Founded on a 400 m long, 22 m deep anchored concrete structure, the result is a building that sets standards in large-format hall construction. The dimensions, the precision of the production and the efficiency of the assembly emphasise Astron's technical expertise and the efficiency of modular steel construction.

Column-free surface - maximum safety and efficiency
The extraordinary span creates free space for man and machine: unobstructed working routes, full overview and flexible utilisation of the interior. The closed steel construction reliably protects the environment and personnel from escaping pollutants. At the same time, it enables the controlled operation of complex filter and ventilation systems. The column-free design thus proves to be a key functional and safety-related component of this unique project.
Astron received the national title at the European Steel Design Award 2023 for its outstanding engineering achievement. The project impressed the jury with its "technical innovation, sustainable construction and architectural clarity". The self-supporting hall at Dethlinger Teich was thus officially recognised as one of the best steel construction projects in Europe.
