REQUIREMENT
Truss girders for sophisticated hybrid construction
Bauder planned the construction of a new production site comprising nine buildings with a total floor area of around 47,000 m². To accommodate the large roof spans and high roof loads resulting from photovoltaic systems, green roofs and suspended technical systems, a structural solution was required that went beyond conventional solid-web girders.
The buildings were to be constructed as a hybrid structure comprising concrete columns and a steel framework. In doing so, the varying manufacturing tolerances of the precast concrete elements had to be taken into account at the design stage to ensure the precise assembly of the truss girders on site. At the same time, stringent requirements regarding fire safety, scheduling and coordination amongst all project stakeholders had to be met.
RESULT
Structural solution for the heaviest loads and large spans
Astron has constructed the steel structures for all nine buildings and used truss girders with clear spans of up to 45 metres. This structural solution enables large roof spans and supports heavy loads from photovoltaic systems, green roofs and suspended technical installations.
For the interfaces between the concrete columns and the steel structure, Astron has developed a special assembly system that reliably compensates for construction tolerances in the precast concrete elements. Fixing rails, slotted holes, and adjustment and clamping bolts enable precise positioning of the trusses and reduce the need for time-consuming rework during assembly.
Fire safety requirements have also been taken into account in the design. The trusses rest on a specially developed wedge system that safely transfers horizontal loads whilst simultaneously meeting the required load-bearing performance in the event of a fire. Close coordination between engineering, manufacturing, logistics and assembly ensures a precise, efficient and on-schedule construction process.
Truss girders for large spans and heavy loads
Truss girders are used wherever conventional solid-web girders reach their limits. Large spans, high roof loads, complex roof structures or hybrid structural concepts require custom-designed steel structures that combine load-bearing capacity, cost-effectiveness and precise execution. At the same time, connections, tolerances and interfaces must be taken into account in detail as early as the planning phase.
Astron develops and delivers truss girders for demanding industrial projects in Europe and beyond. Engineering, fabrication and assembly work seamlessly together, enabling the safe realisation of large spans, high loads and complex hybrid structures combining steel and concrete. Custom-designed structural solutions lay the foundations for cost-effective construction processes and precise execution on site.
Main contractors benefit from an experienced steel construction partner who reliably designs, manufactures and erects truss girders, hybrid structures and sophisticated structural solutions – from the initial structural design right through to successful project completion.
