Steel structure for a complex process plant
As part of a new bioethanol plant, the Swiss chemicals group Clariant AG planned to construct a multi-storey steel structure for the distillation area. The supporting structure was required to accommodate process plant, pipework, platforms, stairways and a crane area across several levels, whilst integrating seamlessly into the overall design of the industrial plant.
The steel structure had to safely bear high plant loads whilst ensuring access for operation, maintenance and assembly. Furthermore, the interfaces with the process plant and the assembly procedures involving other trades had to be coordinated at an early stage in order to meet the tight schedule of the overall project.
The plant was to operate continuously 24/7 and formed part of an industrial project with an investment volume of more than 100 million euros.
RESULT
Seamless integration into a complex industrial project
Astron constructed the steel structure for the distillation area within the industrial site, which covers approximately 100,000 m². The open, hot-dip galvanised steel structure, featuring multiple working levels, integrates process plant, pipework, platforms, stairways and a crane area into a functional, comprehensive solution for operation, maintenance and servicing.
Astron’s engineers developed the complete steel structure and coordinated all interfaces with the process plants as well as with the design partners and trade contractors involved. Engineering, fabrication and assembly were seamlessly integrated. Right from the planning phase, the structural framework, plant integration and assembly processes were coordinated in detail. This reduced interfaces on site, ensured planning reliability and supported the precise and on-schedule implementation of the project.
Steel structures for industrial plants
