REQUIREMENT
Complex steel structure for demanding production processes
BASF was planning to build its largest European plant for exhaust gas catalytic converters. The new industrial complex was to house ten fully automated production lines and bring together production facilities, laboratories, offices and staff amenities for around 780 employees across several building sections.
The steel structure had to accommodate large spans of up to 70 metres whilst simultaneously supporting heavy plant loads and integrating technical equipment and potential crane systems. Furthermore, clearly structured material flows between production, laboratory and storage areas were to be ensured, and future capacity expansions were to be made possible without requiring fundamental alterations to the load-bearing structure.
RESULT
A steel structure designed to meet the most demanding requirements in industrial production
Astron has constructed the steel structure for an industrial complex covering around 28,000 m², comprising several interconnected building sections. The largest section covers more than 5,100 m² and integrates production facilities, laboratories, offices and staff facilities within a coordinated overall design.
The modular structural design provides the framework for ten fully automated production lines, high equipment loads and future capacity expansions without the need for fundamental modifications to the steel structure. Engineering, fabrication and assembly are seamlessly integrated, enabling the precise implementation of an industrial project with a total investment of around 150 million euros.
Steel construction for high-specification production facilities
Production facilities place high demands on the structural framework, planning and execution. Large spans, heavy plant loads, crane systems and complex production processes require steel structures that combine technical precision with cost-effective construction. At the same time, material flows, future extensions and the integration of a wide variety of usage areas must be taken into account right from the planning stage.
Astron develops and delivers steel structures for demanding production facilities in Europe and beyond. Engineering, fabrication and assembly work together seamlessly, laying the foundation for the precise and on-time delivery of complex industrial projects. Modular structural concepts, large spans and the integration of heavy production equipment enable flexible production layouts and support long-term investment security.
Main contractors benefit from an experienced steel construction partner who reliably combines complex structural systems, sophisticated production processes and coordinated project workflows – from the initial planning stage through to successful on-site assembly.
