REQUIREMENT
Hotel construction in earthquake-prone region
A premium-class hotel was to be realised for the client Coratim Hotel in Floresti near Cluj-Napoca. The plan was for a five-storey building with contemporary architecture, high energy efficiency and a clear design signature. The particular challenge lay in the location in a seismically active region and the tight time and budget constraints of the project.
A construction method was required that combined architectural quality with technical efficiency and economic realisation. The building was to reach a height of around 25 metres and at the same time be designed as a lightweight construction in order to meet the seismic requirements. In addition, the architect Dan Vanca, whose design was to characterise the cityscape of Floresti, had high aesthetic demands. The aim was to create a hotel building that combines modern standards, structural safety and sustainable utilisation in a consistent concept.
RESULT
Steel construction for a sustainable, modern hotel building
Astron realised the construction of the West City Hotel for Coratim Hotel as a five-storey building with over 100 rooms and flats on a total area of around 7,000 m². The project redefines the possibilities of modern hotel construction and is the only building with a steel structure of this height in Transylvania.
The construction is based on an optimised steel structure in combination with Hoesch Additive Deck floors (200 mm). This made it possible to realise spans of 5.3 m and significantly reduce the dead weight, construction time and use of materials - a decisive advantage for safety in seismically active regions. A coordinated fire protection solution and precise construction coordination ensured standard-compliant implementation and high cost efficiency.
Architecturally, the building is characterised by visible steel structures, generous glass domes above the atriums and modern lighting architecture. The design concept combines minimalist interiors with high lighting quality and high-quality materials. The result is a quickly realised, durable and energy-optimised hotel that combines structural safety, architectural sophistication and sustainable economic efficiency.
HOTEL CONSTRUCTION IN STEEL - SAFE IN SEISMIC REGIONS
Steel hotel construction offers decisive advantages in seismically demanding regions. Steel constructions are characterised by their low dead weight, high load-bearing capacity and precisely plannable statics. This means that multi-storey hotel buildings can be realised safely, even with increased requirements for earthquake safety and building height.
Astron develops steel hotel buildings that enable short construction times, flexible floor plans and sustainable utilisation. Modular systems reduce foundation costs and make it easier to adapt to changes in utilisation concepts. In combination with energy-efficient building envelopes and modern building technology, hotel buildings are created that can be operated economically in the long term. This makes steel hotel construction a future-proof solution for demanding locations and modern hotel concepts.
