Sports Building on the Arctic Circle
We received some pictures of the first columns installed at the Yamal-Arena site by the general contractor - OOO Magnum.
For this project Astron is delivering several Astron single-storey and multi-storey buildings with a total area of 28,880 m² to the city of Salekhard, which is located on the Arctic Circle in Northern Russia.
The new arena consists of an ice rink with 3,000 seats, training halls, tennis courts, three swimming pools and a universal gym. The new arena can also be used for cultural events and exhibitions.
The main building is a polygonal structure with a free span of 58.5 m. All roof surfaces will use the LMR600 roof system with 300 mm insulation providing ultimate tightness and optimized thermal performance and are designed for the huge snow load of 320 kg/m² in that region.
A Few facts on the project:

• this is the only city in the world, located directly on the Arctic Circle
• the lowest temperature in February is -51.3° C
• very windy
• permafrost soils
✔ The complex is designed for ice hockey competitions, for diving and swimming, for training in basketball, volleyball, mini-football, etc.
✔ The 28,880 m² buildings consists of:
• a large swimming pool with stands for 500 seats
• an ice arena for 3,000 spectators
• training arena
• universal sports hall
✔ Features:
• maximum free span: 58.5 m
• clear height of 22 m
• the whole building is raised 2 meters above the ground. Next to each pile, a thermostabilizer is installed to prevent thawing of the ground during the operation of the building (from the generated heat).
