One Man, One Machine
You have been working in Astron for nearly 20 years and worked on many different job positions. How do you see the company’s development from your position?
During my time in prodution, I have worked with many different machines on many different job positions and I can say that that usage of new technologies is a big benefit for the company. At the moment I am starting to work with my colleague on a new drilling center from the company Voortman. After our training, we are now slowly implementing the new machine into full operation.
You have worked on the MSB drilling machine before. What are the differences?
I have experience with drilling machines from previous times, but to be honest nowadays, the machines are on another level. My previous drilling center, which came from Peddinghaus, was manually operated. Today with VACAM software and our new MRP system STRUMIS, operating is very different. All necessary drawings are directly imported from the TEKLA model. Based on this, the planners compile the operation procedure and convey them into the machine. According to the operation procedures that have been imported into the machine, the necessary drills are saved in the tools’ library and during drilling, the drills are automatically exchanged when necessary. In my opinion, it is a very smart and efficient machine that is able to do not only drilling, but also cutting, milling and marking/engraving.
Is there something that can still surprise you after 20 years in Astron?
There is always something that can surprise me, although I try to avoid any unpleasant surprises by checking and measuring everything at least twice. But even with the usage of new machines and the implementation of new software, there are surprises that you can never avoid.
