First Eco-Circular Car Park
On September 23rd, an official inauguration ceremony for the multi-storey car park at the Bissen Campus took place, attended by the Ministère de l'Économie - Luxembourg, Lex Delles, and all the partners who contributed to the completion of the car park. Located on the Automobility Campus in Bissen, it represents a new era in sustainable and circular construction, being the first eco-circular car park built in Luxembourg.
The building stands out from other car parks due to its truly innovative construction method. The car park features 500 parking spaces for cars and 9 spaces for motorcycles on 6 floors. With a length of 75 metres and a width of 32 metres, it is fully modular and can be dismantled, completely or partially, and reassembled as a car park or for other purposes (such as an office building). Furthermore, it can be laterally expanded, which would increase its capacity by an additional 350 parking spaces. This car park is equipped with a photovoltaic system consisting of 714 modules with a total power of 393 kWp.
The Looppark team, who designed and built this project, consists of the architecture office RAU, the engineering consultancy PlanB, the technical office EnTec, the project management firm PROgroup S.A., as well as the companies Jans, construction companies Astron Buildings /BRIAND Construction, and Enovos Luxembourg, which was responsible for the photovoltaic system. A materials inventory, called "Madaster," was created, meaning that all components were registered in a materials database to enable their reuse at the end of their life in other projects, following the principles of the circular economy, advocated through the Product Circularity Datasheet.
With an area of 14 hectares, capable of accommodating up to 4,000 people, dedicated to innovation in the Luxembourg automotive and mobility sector, the Automobility Campus aims to become the reference site for the sector and to contribute to positioning Luxembourg as a destination of choice for stakeholders. By bringing together all industry stakeholders in one place, the goal is to create synergies, particularly through sharing facilities, resources, and/or experiences, and so boosting innovation in this field—to the benefit of Luxembourg and its mobility needs.
Minister Lex Delles stated: “This project perfectly embodies our commitment to a sustainable economy. Its fully modular and dismantlable structure illustrates Luxembourg's innovation and ambition in the field of circular construction. I would like to thank all those who contributed to this exemplary achievement. This car park focuses on the future of the automotive industry, offers unique architectural flexibility and responds concretely to environmental challenges and modern urban mobility needs.”
The car park will also soon be equipped with charging stations for electric vehicles.
