A state-of-the-art sports pavilion - Part 2/3
This state-of-the-art sports pavilion designed and built by Directline Structures has been hailed by the President of the Football Foundation as “architecturally the most impressive” that he has ever opened.
The pavilion was the concept of Directline Structures’ Managing Director, Duncan Murray, and architect Katy Barker. Duncan and Katy worked in close collaboration with the Langton Green Community Sports Association (LGCSA) throughout the eight-month project to provide a bespoke sports building that not only met their needs but exceeded the Football Foundation’s stringent requirements – all within the £460,000 budget.
Katy Barker said: “A lot of detailed features were developed in collaboration with the client, to deliver the most efficient and functional building possible for their budget. They aren’t necessarily ‘wow’ features but are hugely practical and beneficial!
“The pavilion has high ceilings which provide exceptional acoustics; large glazed doors to the front to allow spectators and players to move in and out easily on match days; additional external toilets; and a kitchen with dual hatches so that food can be served easily inside and outside.”
The new pavilion, which is home to Langton Green’s thriving football community, netball club and other community sports, is far larger than its predecessor and makes better use of natural daylight. It now boasts two full-size changing rooms with showers and toilets, bag rooms, changing rooms for officials and additional toilets outside. It also has a much bigger function room, which can be used by the community and caters for the large numbers who attend football at the weekends.
