12,000m² Ice Arena
A new 12,000m² Ice Arena opened in St. Petersburg, Russia. The project was realized by Astron Builder LIKS Investroy for the company Gazprom.
The new sports facility will host ice hockey training sessions and competitions, as well as other sports events. Architecturally, the complex consists of two Astron buildings with 36 m clear spans covering ice rinks and a two-floor extension in-between, where the administrative and technical premises are situated.
The roof consists of a combination of Polar roof and LMR600 roof systems. The 160 mm thermal insulation ensures a stable indoor climate in the complex as well as energy efficiency and lower operational costs.
The columns are rotated 180°, creating an aesthetic design. Everything that is necessary for everyday training and special events is available here: a cloakroom and a café for visitors and mass media, 8 locker rooms and a gymnasium for athletes are located on the ground floor, while the grandstands accommodating up to 500 spectators and technical premises are on the mezzanines. There are seats at the ground level of the grandstands as well as special elevators for disabled people travelling in wheelchairs.
Special attention is paid to fire safety: the building is divided into two compartments by a fire wall. The halls and corridors are designed to provide fast evacuation in case of an emergency.
