In modern data centres, the technical infrastructure does not end at the building envelope. At a Data4 campus in Milan, roof platforms and walkways are currently being constructed to provide safe access to the technical equipment on the roof and to facilitate maintenance work efficiently.
The steel structures form a separate service level above the building. They support technical equipment and create safe working areas for inspection, maintenance and the replacement of components – without disrupting the day-to-day operations of the data centre.
Astron Buildings is supplying the steel structures for the roof infrastructure of the hyperscale data centre. The scope of work includes roof walkways and equipment platforms, façade substructures with integrated acoustic panels, internal staircases, maintenance platforms in technical shafts, and other access structures.
The project demonstrates the importance of independent access systems for the reliable operation of modern data centres. Safe maintenance routes help to ensure availability, occupational safety and long-term operational reliability, even in complex technical facilities.
