Germany aims to double data centre capacity by 2030
The Federal Government intends to significantly accelerate the expansion of data centres in Germany. By 2030, IT processing capacity is set to at least double compared with 2025. For artificial intelligence and high-performance computing, a fourfold increase in capacity is even planned.
“Germany needs more computing power,” explained Federal Minister for Digital Affairs Dr Karsten Wildberger at the mid-year review of the National Data Centre Strategy on 18 September 2026. According to the Federal Government, 25 of the 28 planned measures have already been launched. These include securing suitable sites at an early stage, faster planning and approval procedures, and a more efficient allocation of grid connection capacity.
The planned expansion also places new demands on the buildings. As power density increases, the demands on structural frameworks, as well as cooling and energy infrastructure, grow in particular. Technical installations on the roof result in high loads and necessitate early coordination between the building structure and technical planning.
Astron brings this expertise to data centre projects – from engineering and structural analysis through in-house manufacturing to assembly. This also includes complex steel structures and roof platforms for extensive technical installations. This enables high technical requirements to be met
