Bauder, a manufacturer of waterproofing and roofing systems, has opened its new production site, covering a total area of 47,000 m². The facility comprises nine buildings and has been designed to accommodate large roof spans as well as heavy loads from photovoltaic systems, green roofs and building services equipment.
For the project, Astron Buildings developed a hybrid structure comprising concrete columns and a steel framework. Truss girders with column-free spans of up to 45 metres are used, creating spacious production areas whilst safely supporting high roof loads.
A particular challenge lay in the precise connection of the steel structure to the prefabricated concrete components. To address this, the engineering team developed a specially tailored assembly solution that takes construction tolerances into account and enables a precise fit on site.
The project demonstrates how hybrid structures combine the advantages of steel and concrete construction. Close coordination between engineering, fabrication, logistics and assembly resulted in a high-performance structural solution for demanding industrial buildings.
