The entire building is not always the centre of attention. At a data centre in Milan, a 20 m high steel staircase provides safe access to technical roof areas and supports the reliable operation of the facility.
The external steel structure connects several service levels with the technical roof zones and enables maintenance, inspection and service work.
The steel staircase is part of a comprehensive steel construction package from Astron. This also includes roof gantry structures and dedicated steelwork for roof-level access and technical circulation and façade enclosures. The staircase operates as a self-supporting structure, ensuring safe vertical movement between service levels and rooftop equipment zones, fully aligned with the stringent operational and safety requirements of mission-critical environments.
The project shows that modern steel construction goes far beyond the actual building structure. Steel staircases and maintenance structures also make an important contribution to the functionality and availability of modern data centres.
