ASTRON - MSB of the quarter - June 2005

MSB : high aims, high performance

The luxembourgish old-age and invalidity insurance, A.V.I., part of the social security building (Assurances Sociales) in Luxembourg City, was literally bursting at the seams: additional space was badly and above all, quickly needed. ASTON Builder managed to complete this extension within 6 months only, which is a short building period for a nearly 30 high building, The office building has two very special qualities: First, it comprises the very unusual number of 8 (eight!) storeys, more precisely the ground floor plus 7 upper floors. But not only due to its impressive size, this office complex has been voted ASTRON Multi-Storey Building of the Quarter – additionally, the extension had to match exactly with the roughly 20 year old existing building. And this turnt out well too: only experienced observers recognize the difference between old (lower picture) and new fabric of the building (upper picture). The matt green shell sheeting, in interaction with the yellow façade and window elements, are an excellent example for architectural design.
