ASTRON - Local news - 18 October 2005
New Beginnings for Jubilee ChurchIn 1999, Jubilee Church, in Bromley, Kent (United Kingdom), decided to re-build its Place of Worship and Community Centre. The existing building on the site was 75 years old and in danger of falling down. There then followed a period of hard work, much sacrifice and fund-raising by the Church, culminating in the demolition of the old building in summer 2003 and the commencement of the new Jubilee Centre in April 2004. Initially, a brick-built structure was designed but proved too expensive. The Church subsequently decided on an innovative ASTRON structure from UK partner Directline Construction. The instruction was that, overall, the building should be affordable, but most importantly "People Friendly", reflecting ‘a building of today, not yesterday’. The new Jubilee Centre opened in October 2004 and in a letter of appreciation to Directline Construction, the Church stated "we have a great new building, the finish of which, although unusual from a traditional point of view, is exactly how it was envisaged originally: roomy, of good quality and above all "People Friendly". Since the name – "Jubilee" – means a time of new beginnings, the Church is certainly living up to its name. |
