Let’s erect the roof first!Although not standard practice, this method of erecting an ASTRON building can have advantages on certain job-sites. Essentially, it consists of erecting the entire roof structure on the ground and then lifting it as one piece into position on the columns. This erection procedure developed more than 10 years ago was used in France to overcome certain site problems and is still use quite often in the Scandinavian countries among others by Builders such as Saabyg , Nimab and Boxholm . Subsequently, the first Builder to use it in Germany was H. Hansen & Co. GmbH . The process is simple; purlins, roof panels and insulation are assembled on a flat, level area on the job-site, either alongside where the building is to be placed or directly on the building’s floor slab. Depending on the specific conditions of the job-site, the columns are either erected before the assembled roof is lifted, or are erected underneath while the roof is suspended from the cranes. The number of cranes needed, generally up to 4, depends on the format of the roof, but they are used for only a short time. The cost of craneage with this kind of lifting is very often lower than with traditional lifting by component or by axis. The main advantage of this "one-time lift" approach is that the erection of the purlins, insulation and roof panels "on the ground" is frequently easier and safer than the traditional approach. Consequently, it can be quicker and more economical. The need for nets and other security equipment is greatly reduced, even eliminated, while the erectors can move more easily about their work. A secondary advantage is that this approach, being innovative and unusual, can be singled out and used as a "marketing action". Invite the local press along at the time of the lift. It provides an opportunity to promote your company as modern, innovative and highly competitive. A critical key to success is to establish a close relationship between Builder, erection company and ASTRON. If you are interested by this method, do not hesitate to ask your ASTRON Team for more information. |
