11.000 m² for Voest Alpine

The Voest Alpine Group is an international company with some 23.000 employees spread among its headquarters in Austria and development and production sites in more than 30 countries. Its main activity is the manufacture of high quality steel products.

Following an increasing demand for quality profiles, the management decided to build an 11.000 m² complex on a 27.000 m² site in a Cologne suburb. ASTRON Builder Michael Feit from Laufeld (Germany) used its proven quality and cost-effective concepts to convince Voest to award it the contract to construct this project in several steps. The Builder offered a complete range of services, from conception through planning applications and approvals to turn-key delivery of the building; a complete „one-stop" source. The main part of the building complex is a 48m wide, 128m long special AZM 3 hall, which was later extended by half as much again. Additionally, an 1.000 m² AP wing unit is included alongside this huge hall, in which offices, social rooms and workshops are housed. The roof is a PR profile, in ALUZINC, while the walls are 60 mm sandwich panels in white aluminium. The inside of the building is dominated by many huge cranes which are necessary for the production processes.
