Tennis Player Maleeva builds her own Tennis HallMembers of the Maleeva family, mother Youlia and 3 daughters, Manuela, Katarina and Magdalena were, in their day, top tennis seeds and multiple Bulgarian champions, fame they enjoyed over several decades. Manuela was ranked No. 3 in 1985, Katarina No. 6 in 1990, and Magdalena, still playing at a professional level and very well known on the Luxembourg courts, No. 4 in 1996. Those success stories may be forgotten with the passing of time, but the first ASTRON tennis building in Sofia that they have constructed will be a lasting memorial to their fame and success. The Maleevas Tennis Club attracts many people in the Bulgarian capital. Tennis and squash, massage, solarium and fitness centre, restaurant and hairdresser, even a playcorner for kids, are all incorporated within the 2.600 m² ASTRON hall. The complex includes 4 indoor and 6 outdoor courts, with some 200 trees and 2.000 shrubs, on a total area of 15.000 m². The Maleeva family wanted a simple building but one that would offer a full range of facilities and comfort to its members. Since they had already seen and played in ASTRON tennis centres abroad, they were delighted to see that ASTRON was represented in Sofia, through Builder Metalstroy, and quickly made their decision to place the order. The AZM1 main building spans over 38 m with a length of 65.88m and an eave height of 4.90. The 4 m wing unit serves as a corridor to the courts . To reduce playing noise within the centre, sound panels are included under the DSR 200 roof. Walls are PA / PI panels while the entrance and lobby are made of glass. Parking under the building rounds off the complex. Inaugurated in November 2004, this ASTRON building is the first modern tennis centre in Bulgaria. In the future, it is planned to organize tournaments in the complex. When asking Youlia about future ASTRON buildings across the country, she smiles and adds: „I do not say no". |
