ASTRON Builders tap cross-border potential! The recent enlargement of the European Union to include 10 new countries, the increasing globalization of the world’s economies plus a more international attitude towards business in general, has opened up new business opportunities for many companies. This, certainly, was one observation made by UK Builder Directline Construction Ltd who recently decided to set up a formal marketing partnership with the French Builder Devos & Ployart, Dunkerque. The two companies already knew each other well, having worked together in the past. The aim of the marketing co-operation was to develop a cross-border capability targeting small and medium-sized enterprises on either side of the channel planning new premises of between 1.000 and 3.000 m². On June 25 of this year, an initial meeting took place at Dover (England), attended by Mr and Mrs Murray (Directline Construction Ltd), Keith Dexter (Ivanhoe Consulting Services), Mauro Picco (ASTRON sales director for the United Kingdom), Marc Smaniotto (Devos & Ployart) and Albert Jacob (ASTRON sales director of the north of France). The aim was to define the main objectives and framework of the partnership. The main targets were primarily UK companies that planned to invest in the region of Calais and Dunkerque. Directline Construction would find the potential customer and create the link with Devos & Ployart who, in turn, would find a suitable site for the development, assist the customer with the various French formalities and construct the building "turnkey". Throughout the project, the UK Builder would remain the main contact person for the UK customer. For French companies planning to invest in Great Britain, the two partners would simply reverse their roles. Close contact is to be maintained between the two Builders by means of regular visits to exchange information and transfer of know-how. An important first step has been taken by the publication of a common brochure announcing the new cross-border services. This brochure will be mailed to potential targets via the local English and French Chambers of Commerce. Having worked out the main objectives and principles of operation of the partnership, the two companies are now actively evaluating potential interest. ASTRON congratulates both partners for this initiative in cross-border co-operation and will provide technical and logistical support. |
