A building for windows!Johannes Wegener Baugeschäft GmbH & Co. KG has been in business for more than 75 years. The company, which has some 70 employees, started life as a supplier of building materials. In the late 70's, however, it widened its activities by setting up a department for commercial construction. An ASTRON Builder for many years, Wegener specialises in constructing industrial buildings for nearly any purpose and of virtually any size, shape or dimensions. A good example is a manufacturing plant for windows built near Eisenach in 1997. The customer, Brand GmbH, produces windows, doors, façade elements and conservatories (winter gardens) for later distribution in Germany by means of a commercial network. Builder Wegener built the original 5.000 m² factory in Creutzburg-Ifta entirely in ASTRON. To cope with expanding business, Brand recently expanded the plant. An additional 2.500 m² of floor space, on 2 levels, was incorporated into the existing building. Production areas for windows are on the first floor, while storage and distribution of the products, via 11 loading ramps, is concentrated on the ground floor, making for highly effective use of space. The building owner chose a grey/white sandwich panel as wall cladding and a chestnut coloured PR panel for the roof. To provide natural light within the building and to comply with the required security aspects, 16 smoke vents (each 1.20 m x 2.40 m) were installed. The building blends well into the original structure and, moreover, was constructed by Wegener without disturbing the course of the company's day-to-day business. Building owner, Stefan Brand, is very satisfied with the result and describes his building complex as one of the most modern window production sites in Europe. Wegener is currently building another 750 m² ASTRON building for Brand near Paderborn. |
