PARKER-ASTRON: a fruitful collaborationThe Hydraulic Division of the Parker Hannifin Corporation manufactures one of the world’s most extensive ranges of hydraulic systems and components for applications as varied as machine tools, foundries, flight simulators and countless others. In order to consolidate its hydraulic activities at one site in France, Parker decided to increase the capacity of its production facility at Contamine-Sur-Arve, resulting in an additional 3.000 m² complex for the assembly of hydraulic components, virtually a mirror image of its existing building; with a crane and a mezzanine, plus a multi-story building serving as office space on one level. Parker Hannifin has an ongoing need for new facilities in many different European countries so, quite naturally, Parker turned to ASTRON’s "key account" programme for its building needs. ASTRON, which is also a member of the Parker Hannifin Group, in co-operation with its Builder Arch' Industrie, came up with a winning solution. The building is characterized by its architectural shapes. For the roof, the client selected a double skin system with an all-round parapet. An interesting feature is the protruding, triangular-shaped glazing and cladding details in the sidewall! Particular care was taken to ensure a "tight" building as dictated by the hydraulic assembly processes. Thanks to the expertise of Builder Arch' Industry, as well as the high degree of flexibility of ASTRON Multi-Story buildings, the new high-tech office building is both functional and meets Parker’s aesthetic requirements. The architectural style of the new 800 m² building blends in perfectly with that of the existing office building which sits alongside. It too has a double skin roof, with a reverse slope and central gutter, and utilises lightweight concrete elements for the façade. |
