Astron- Industrial building – Great-Britain– Steel Construction - leisure building – Great-Britain

An original building for a garden centre

When it was created some 30 years ago, Polhill Garden Centre was a nursery for chrysanthemums and bedding plants. Since then, the company has gone from strength-to-strength until it is now SouthEast England’s largest garden centre. To further enlarge its activities, the company recently contracted ASTRON Builder Directline Construction Ltd to build new catering facilities and a cafeteria. The complex geometry required to match the building to its environment is highly original. Some 923 m² are devoted to a seating area with 400 seats inside and 250 on the terrace, from which a show garden with nature pond can be accessed.A new office area and warehouse were also incorporated into the 561m² building as part of the expansion programme. Strict constraints were imposed upon the building’s aspect and styling due to its rural location. Highly creative architecture and an attractive glazed façade have resulted in an outstandingly attractive building.Once again, Builder Directline Construction Ltd has come up with a flexible and attractive building that is tailor-made to their client’s needs. Mrs Alison Novell, Managing Director of Polhill Garden Centre, said: "Directline Construction Ltd worked with us in a tough retail environment to maintain our sales throughout the construction period. The building is an ideal environment for the expansion of our business."
