This Market is Simply Super ASTRON Builder Kientsch from Schweiberdingen (Germany) successfully combined several architectural trends within this 2,000 m² supermarket; horizontal wall cladding, a canopy with castellated rafters and featuring decorative aluminium tubes, plus a 10° inclined wall. Also noteworthy is the combination of various building materials, such as steel, glass and masonry, giving the building a particularly charming aspect. Building owners Lehmann GmbH & Co. KG, a company specialising in the development and subsequent renting/leasing of supermarkets, designed this particular store in Straubenhardt-Conweiler (D) in close collaboration with the Link architectural practice and ASTRON Builder Kientsch. The building interior is divided into a 1,300 m² supermarket plus a 700 m² drink shop. The latter also contains a 150 m² gallery with a baker’s shop and a fast food restaurant. At the outside wall, the mezzanine of this gallery is supported by the building’s main portal frames while its inner side rests on round columns. The structural concept of the inclined wall is rather unusual. At a height of 4 m, the columns of the primary framing are angled by 10 °. Above this knee, the wall has a glass façade, offering visitors to the first floor gallery views of both the exterior and interior of the building. Below, POLAR panels with 80 mm insulation and horizontal panelling follow the 10° inclination line of the upper glass front. Since the customer was already familiar with ASTRON and since Kientsch Industriebau enjoys a well-deserved reputation for quality and reliability, in addition to having many good reference buildings, the choice of a construction company for the project was not a difficult one for the building owners. Neither is it surprising that, being very satisfied with the end result in Straubenhardt-Conweiler, the owners are planning further projects using the ASTRON building system.
