Astron- logistics building – Iceland – Steel Construction - logistics building – Iceland

A successful European collaboration !

In conjunction with the expansion of its activities at Reykjavik International Airport in Keflavik, the air freight department of the Icelandic company - Icelandair Cargo - decided to modernise its infrastructure to improve the efficiency of its air freight handling operations. To handle this complex assignment, ASTRON Builder Stalex was assisted by the Danish ASTRON Builder Saabyg. Combining each company’s experience and know-how enabled them to come up with a solution that best exploited the advantages of the ASTRON building system. It proved an exemplary co-operation ! The 4.229 m² building is impressive due to its rational yet unpretentious architectural styling. More importantly, it is highly efficient in that having unloaded import goods aircraft can be immediately loaded with products for export, reducing turn around time. A number of accessories are incorporated into the building, which features a DSR double skin roof and a PA / PI wall cladding, to facilitate freight handling. Passengers on international flights in Keflavik are treated to an unrestricted view of this fine building.
