Car Park for Austrian Railway
The „most important infrastructure project of Wels“, as it is called by the local press, is an absolute eye-catcher. But even besides its visual appearance, this modern multi storey car park – built for the Austrian Railway (ÖBB) – has a lot to offer.
545 parking lots and 490 bicycle stands are located on a surface of 17,700 m², which are divided into four levels. The structure of the multi storey car park combines steel elements with reinforced concrete. It attracts attention due to its generously glassed front – especially in the evening hours. The building is located right next to the tracks of the train station, which can be accessed through a roofed passageway. This required special safety regulations to be taken into account. Thus the multi storey car park is equipped with a 35 cm wall of reinforced concrete, which can withstand the collision with a 60 t train.
Besides safety, usability was a major concern of the customer: A parking guidance system with signal lights and display panels marks free parking areas. The bare steel beams are colored differently to allow intuitive orientation – the top level elements are painted in the company’s corporate color.
This prestigious project was planned and erected by the Astron Builder Gerstl Bau GmbH & Co KG from Wels, a long-established family business with extensive parking garage know-how.
